From the tropical rain forests of Colombia and Venezuela, the plant came to Europe around 1870 and has since conquered our window seats.
A pointed, dark green leaf sits on each of its stems. The flower spikes, half covered by a snow-white petal, are enthroned on the stems.
The single leaf is therefore a distinctive phenomenon - which also flowers regularly: an inflorescence usually lasts for weeks; over time, the white bracts take on a greenish colour.
As an original jungle inhabitant, the single leaf has a lot to spare for warm and humid indoor air. The plant cannot stand a place directly in the sun, but it enjoys it very much when its leaves (not the petals) are occasionally sprayed with lukewarm water.
This arum plant, which is easy to care for and hardly susceptible to pests, is so popular not only because of its elegance and joy of flowering.
It also impresses with its enormous cleaning power and largely frees the air of formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene.
